Everyone who visits Sydney knows the Bondi to Coogee walk in the eastern suburbs is a must. And take it from us, the hype is real. The walk stretches six kilometers long and those who choose to brave the heat and accept the 2.5-hour challenge are rewarded with the most stunning sea views.

So get your walking shoes ready, slap on some sun cream, put on your swimmers and get your phones out (pics or it didn’t happen) because you’re in for quite a treat. Unlike your regular walking guides, we are showing you how you can maximize this experience. Enjoy the Bondi to Coogee walk, drop by some interesting spots and take your time. You’re on vacay so what’s the rush anyway?

Bondi to Coogee Walk First Stop: Bondi Beach

You’ll start your journey on the most famous beach in all of Sydney. It’s normally packed with foreigners and locals who are looking to tan and swim for the day. If you plan to get in the sea, make sure to stay in between the flags. The waves are usually so strong that even the best swimmers have a difficult time, which is why you can expect to hear regular safety reminders from the lifeguards patrolling the beach.

If you’re looking to take some surfing lessons, Bondi is the perfect place. You can go to Let’s Go Surfing and get a 2-hour group beginner class. Their rates already include the wetsuit and surfboard so all you need to do is show up!

Yoga at the Bondi to Coogee Walk: Bondi Icebergs & Yoga by the Sea

We’re going to start the coastal walk with some yoga. Your legs will be tested during this walk so you need to warm them up and stretch your muscles. Located at the iconic Bondi Icebergs, Yoga by the Sea holds seaside classes all year round so you can kickstart your day right smack in the middle of Bondi Beach. Try their Rise & Shine class for an early morning endorphin boost. After the class, you can swim some laps in the ocean pool. Entry fee is only $7 for an adult.

Art at the Bondi to Coogee Walk: Tamarama Beach

From Bondi to Tamarama is about a 25-minute walk. On the way, you’ll pass by Mackenzie’s Point and Mark’s Park, the venue for the annual Sculpture by the Sea. It’s the world’s biggest free public sculpture exhibit. It features different artworks by artists from Australia and around the globe.

Similar to Bondi Beach, Tamarama’s beach waves are strong and large which is why it’s not recommended for swimming and has the reputation for being a good surf spot. It is also known as a place where beautiful people hang out, earning the moniker, “Glamorama.” So we don’t blame you if you decide to stay a little longer.

Bondi to Coogee Walk Beach Stop: Bronte Beach

The walk from Tamarama to Bronte is the easiest one you’ll experience for the day. Apart from its stunning beach, there is also the Bronte Baths, an ocean pool that’s perfect for a quick dip. The ocean pool is also big enough for those who are looking to do some laps but shallow enough for those just wanting to relax and cool off. There are also picnic tables and BBQ areas for anyone to use. But if you’re looking for a quick grub, the famed Bronte Fish and Chips is just a few steps away from the sandy shore.

History at the Bondi to Coogee Walk: Waverley Cemetery

A few years ago, people walking south from Bronte would pass through a boardwalk but this was washed away by a storm. So in order to continue on the coastal walk, you will need to navigate through a graveyard. The scaredy cats don’t need to worry. We tried it and we came out of it fine. Maybe a little light headed but, still fine.

The Waverley Cemetery is state heritage listed and it’s where some famous personalities are known to be buried. Open since 1877, the cemetery is known to have one of the world’s best views.

Games & Beer at the Bondi to Coogee Walk: Clovelly Lawn Bowl’s Club

If you want a break from the beach and from the walk, you can drop by here and have a good and exciting game of barefoot lawn bowls for just $15 per person. If you haven’t played it before, the staff will teach you the basics of the game. Don’t take it too seriously, though! The worse you are, the more fun the game will be! And did we mention, they have a bar that serves cold draught beers on tap? It’s the perfect spot to cool down after spending some time under the sun.

Snorkeling at the Bondi to Coogee Walk: Gordons Bay

A hidden gem and a locals’ favorite, Gordons Bay is one of Sydney’s best not-so-secret places. It’s easily accessible from the coastal walk but remains quiet and secluded, unlike the other nearby beaches. The waters are also much calmer and it has a dedicated underwater nature trail which is why scuba diving and snorkeling are popular activities. It’s also an ideal place to just relax and be one with nature.

Bondi to Coogee Walk Viewpoint & Drinks Stop: Coogee Pavilion

You’re almost at the end so congratulations! You need to give yourself a pat on the back and a cold beer on tap. Head over to Coogee Pavilion’s Rooftop and savor the amazing sea views while enjoying your post-walk afternoon drinks. This one is actually on the top of our Best Bars List because it’s the perfect place to meet locals and other travelers. While you’re there, take advantage of their awesome weekday drink deals!

Not far from Coogee Pavilion and still a few steps from the less busy and less crowded Coogee Beach, Little Jack Horner is your last stop for the day. Grab dinner while you watch the beach life slow down and the nightlife ramps up. Treat yourself to a bottle (or two) of wine and either sway your hips to the beach bar music or sing along with the live band.

Where to Stay in Sydney

If you’re looking for the perfect neighborhood to base yourself during your Sydney trip, you should turn to Coogee. It’s steps away from an amazing beach but also just a bus ride away from the CBD. It’s chill, trendy, fun and convenient! It also doesn’t come with the same big crowds that Bondi has daily.

For clean, modern and comfortable accommodations, Mad Monkey Hostel Coogee Beach is easily the best choice (okay, we’re a bit biased). Just launched earlier this year, the hostel offers a memorable experience and friendly rates to backpackers traveling to Sydney. It has a common kitchen, lounge, and regular group activities so their guests can meet other travelers who share the same interests: partying, enjoying and experiencing new things. Plus, it offers discounted tours around Sydney. You’ll be mad not to try it!
