Coogee Bars Best Atmosphere: Coogee Pavilion
Google “drinks in Coogee” and the first thing that will pop-up on your screen is this enormous and trendy restaurant and bar with the best sweeping ocean views. The ground floor is open to all kinds of people, families with children included. It serves burgers, pizzas, salads and a variety of seafood dishes. It also has a giant Scrabble board, a ping-pong table, and a small theatre. When you go upstairs on the Coogee Pavilion Rooftop, it becomes an adult-only destination with a view that will knock you out of your chair. Visit on weekdays between 5 pm and 7 pm for $15 pizzas, $7 pints and $6 schooners. Their recently-opened Pimm’s Oyster House also has a happy hour between 2 pm and 4 pm every Friday to Sunday and offers a Pimm’s cup and two oysters for $14.

Coogee Best Alfresco Bar: Coogee Bay Hotel
A known local favorite, the Coogee Bay Hotel has been welcoming visitors since 1875. It has the perfect location – just a few steps away from the sandy shore, giving you the calming sound of the crashing waves. It’s an accommodation and event venue in one. But the real gems here are its alfresco beer garden, beach bar, sports bar and Arden lounge. Yes, you read that right: four bars on the premises. What more could you ask for?

Coogee Beach Best Live Music Bar: Little Jack Horner
You already know it serves good food, and that it’s right next to the beautiful Coogee beach. But what makes this splendid little place even more special is how it turns into a cool bar at night. People go here for the live music every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Another big draw is the weekday happy hour: $12 cocktails from 8:30 pm to 10 pm. Don’t be surprised if you see people happily dancing on a Sunday afternoon. Get your party pants on and join in on the fun!

Coogee Beach Best Happy Hour: Coogee Diggers
This is a membership club in Coogee worth visiting. If you don’t know a member who can sign you in, you can show an ID that proves you don’t live in the area, allowing you to sign up. If you’re interested, the annual membership with Coogee Diggers only costs $10, which gives you access to four bars on the premises. Enjoy some popular live music at The Bunker, which serves beers and American style food. Bask in the sunshine and fresh air at the Main Bar, sip on an ice cold brew at the Beer Garden or catch a footy game at the Sports Bar. As a member, you also get a 15% discount on all drinks and $4.50 happy hour drinks every Monday to Friday, 4 to 6 pm.

After you’ve filled up on amazing Mexican food, you can start with a piña colada, a refreshing sangria, or a bucket of beers. No matter what you choose, you’ll surely be thirstin’ for more. If you’re looking for more traditional Mexican food and drinks, then head to Roca, a Day of the Dead themed restaurant. Founded after World War II, this membership club in Coogee was meant to provide fellowship and friendship between ex-servicemen and women. To enter, you can either get yourself signed in by a member or just produce an ID that proves that you live beyond 5km of the club. Once inside, you can go straight to the balcony and grab a table which gives you an unbelievable ocean vantage point. With reasonably-priced bites and drinks, the Coogee Legion Club is exactly what you need to enjoy an Aussie arvo like a local.

Best Bar for Groups: Clovelly Hotel
Brightly-lit and well-designed, this pub is definitely a beachside favorite among locals and tourists. You can choose to stay on the rustic-themed ground floor, the hip and colorful bistro, the industrial-chic lounge bar or the popular airy beer garden with a huge leafy magnolia tree smacked in the middle. For drinks, the Frose All Day and the Budgie Smuggler will not let you down. As soon as you enter this pub, your eyes will be drawn to the sandstone walls – proof of this establishment’s history which dates back to 1850. But The Cookhouse is far from being an old and dated drinking hole. It has an impressive menu filled with excellent pub food and a long list of craft beers, spirits, cocktails and wines. Unlike most pubs, it has no television or pokies to distract you. All you need are good music, great company and a drink in hand.

Royal Hotel, Randwick
This one’s quite special as it’s a National Trust building built in 1887. It also offers accommodations to weary travelers but what really draws the crowd here are the three bars and the bistro. The outdoor patio looks out to the Highcross Park and is decked out with pretty white lights making it a perfect destination if you want to just chill out for the evening.

Best Beer Garden: Coach and Horses Hotel, Randwick
This pub has maintained its charming old style, but has also incorporated modern facilities. It’s no wonder Coach and Horses has remained one of the most iconic pubs in Sydney. It has three bars — lounge bar, beer garden and the sports bar — ready to serve the thirsty. Happy hour is on weekdays, between 5 pm to 7 pm, when Carlton Draught schooners are sold for only $4.20. A piece of Barcelona in the middle of Sydney’s eastern suburb, Del Punto serves some of the best tapas and cocktails in The Spot.
