At Mad Monkey, we believe that travel can (and should) create a positive ripple effect. Our Mad Love Community Impact Report 2024 is packed with inspiring stories of impact, love, and community empowerment. From providing clean water to building brighter futures and celebrating sustainability, we’ve had a year to remember!
Here’s a glimpse into how we made 2024 all about Mad Love and meaningful change.
Clean Water Initiatives: Giving Communities a Fresh Start
Water is life, and ensuring clean water for communities was a key focus in 2024.
World Water Day Campaign
Our World Water Day Campaign raised $1,725.09 for five charities across the regions we operate in. This global success underscored our commitment to addressing the water crisis and making a tangible impact on communities worldwide.
Supporting Water Wells in Cambodia
Through the sale of raffle tickets, we raised $158 to support the Cambodian Buddhist Association for Vulnerable Children (CBAVC). These funds will help build water wells, ensuring families have access to clean drinking water.
Clean Water for Students in Laos
Partnering with Abundant Water Laos, we installed water filtration systems at Naduang Primary School in Vang Vieng, providing students with daily access to clean drinking water.
Siargao Water Fund
When a two-week blackout hit Siargao, we provided free drinking water to the community. To keep the fund going, we hosted nightly beer pong competitions, with proceeds supporting clean water initiatives.
Supporting Students & Education: Empowering the Next Generation
Conquering Ironman 70.3 for a Cause
Our co-founders Alex and Tom participated in Ironman 70.3 in Cebu, raising $2,200 for The Rabbit School in Phnom Penh. These funds help provide education for underprivileged children with learning disabilities.
Raising the Roof for Chili House
In Gili Trawangan, our Culture Clash charity event raised $745 (Rp 12,000,000) to repair the Chili Community House’s school and playground, creating a safer and more vibrant learning environment.
The Dream School Project
In Vietnam, we broke ground on three new classrooms at Minh Thang Primary School, aiming to improve education for vulnerable children.
Fundraising for Calitang Elementary
At Mad Monkey Nacpan Beach, our Quarter 2 CSR event raised PHP 134,450, improving educational facilities at Calitang Elementary School.
Championing Student Nourishment
When we discovered that 50 children at Calitang Elementary were missing meals daily, our team donated a cooking pot and printer to help sustain their meal program.
Monkey Library Inauguration
Through fundraising, we helped fund a new library at Calitang Elementary School. Our next goal is to build a new classroom to ease overcrowding.
Sports Kit Sponsorship
We provided Calitang Elementary School students with new Mad Monkey sports kits for their sports fest in El Nido, boosting their confidence and team spirit.
Protecting the Environment: Sustainability at the Core
World Oceans Day
To celebrate World Oceans Day, we organized beach clean-ups and workshops at our beach hostels in Gili T, Nacpan Beach, Siargao, Panglao, and Koh Rong, raising awareness about ocean conservation.
Level 2 Sustainability Badge: Mad Monkey Coogee Beach
Mad Monkey Coogee Beach earned the Level 2 Sustainability Badge from Hostelworld’s Staircase to Sustainability program for our ongoing commitment to eco-friendly travel.
Level 2 Sustainability Badge: Mad Monkey Hoi An
In October 2024, Mad Monkey Hoi An became one of the first hostels in Vietnam to achieve this milestone, recognizing our efforts in reducing plastic waste, sourcing eco-friendly products, and running an electric shuttle.
Mad Love Launch Events: Celebrating Travel with Purpose
Mad Love Eco Fun Run (Chiang Mai)
Our Eco Fun Run kicked off with a 30-minute jog through Chiang Mai, where we collected 2kg of trash and ended the day with a poolside lunch.
Mad Love Beach Fest (Koh Rong)
On Koh Rong, Mad Love Beach Fest celebrated pups and paradise with DJ beats, sandcastle contests, and our Pups in Paradise fundraiser.
Mad Love Volleyball Tournament (Panglao)
The Mad Love Volleyball Tournament raised funds for Danao Elementary School, blending competition and charity.
Mad Love Adventure Island (Siargao)
In Siargao, guests enjoyed a full day of island-hopping, games, and live music, raising funds for Catangnan Elementary School.
Mad Love Music Fest for a Cause (Siquijor)
The 3-day Mad Love Music Fest supported Tignao Elementary School with live performances, raffles, and a talent show.
Community Support Initiatives: Uplifting Communities Together
Clothing Donation Drive (Phnom Penh)
We delivered school supplies and clothing to the Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF) to support underprivileged children.
Enhancing School Safety (Vang Vieng)
We donated fire alarm bells to four local schools in Vang Vieng to improve safety measures.
Sunset Beach Run (Panglao)
The Sunset Beach Run raised 23,800 PHP for Danao Elementary School and Trinity Angels Care Home, while collecting 135 kilos of trash.
Christmas Celebrations
- Holiday Cheer in Siargao: We prepared 120 food parcels for local children, spreading love and joy.
- Community Kids Christmas Party (Panglao): A joyful celebration with gifts, games, and food for local children.
- Christmas Lunch (Manila): Partnering with Virlanie Foundation, we hosted 34 children for a festive feast.
Spreading Joy Through Music
We raised $104 to support the Hope Choir, a group of visually impaired musicians dedicated to inspiring through music.
Closing the Year with Purpose and Gratitude
As we close the chapter on 2024, we are proud to share that we collectively raised $12,700 for various charities and organizations.
While this figure represents our shared commitment to giving back, the true measure of our efforts lies beyond monetary value. It’s in the countless smiles, strengthened communities, and opportunities we’ve helped create in the places we call home.
Together, we’ve shown that meaningful change is possible when we combine purpose with passion. We look forward to continuing this incredible journey in the years to come.
