Beautiful hotels are easy to find, but what about a beautiful hotel that’s completely unlike the rest? A hotel with a story, or a unique feature that’s completely its own? Luang Prabang, with its former status as the Royal Capital and French Colonial influences, has no shortage of historical structures, attractive natural features, and glimmers of fascinating stories. If you’re looking into Luang Prabang Hotels, consider staying at one of these amazing places.

Maison Dalabua

A pocket of paradise surrounded by UNESCO classified lotus ponds

If you’re looking for a tropical escape, but are still eager to be in the center of town, consider making the Maison Dalabua your temporary abode. At this peaceful oasis of a hotel, you’ll find yourself surrounded by magical lotus ponds, and if you’d like to dine amongst them, just wander over to the Manda de Lao restaurant on the hotel grounds. At the hotel restaurant, feel free to perch yourself at a pondside table, sip at a cocktail or your beverage of choice, and watch one of Laos’ magnificent sunsets. And when you’re ready for the hustle and bustle, Luang Prabang’s main attractions are just a three-minute walk away.

Satri House

The former residence of a Prince located in the heart of town

Almost two decades ago, the former residence of Prince Souphanouvong was refurbished to perfection and today it stands as the Satri House. While the hotel still retains most of its French Colonial charm, it has had over thirty rooms and suites, expanding its borders and creating the atmosphere of a tranquil oasis. Satri House is another favorite among travelers and consistently received glowing reviews from previous guests. Why not stay and lounge by the pool, have a drink at the garden bar, or make use of their fantastic spa services?

Pullman Luang Prabang

A sprawling resort in the rustic countryside amidst mountains and paddy fields

This new hotel resort covers 16-hectares of land in the countryside of Luang Prabang. Look around and you’ll find yourself surrounded by lush green mountains, streams, paddy fields, and more. Depending on your personal preferences, the location could be the highlight or the drawback. While it is an 11-minute drive from central Luang Prabang, its location is unquestionably stunning. Despite being the largest resort in Northern Laos, buildings and villas are spread out so no guest feels trapped between other travelers. The Pullman is an ideal choice for anyone seeking a luxurious tropical escape at an affordable price.

Victoria Xiengthong Palace

Surrounded by Buddhist temples at the last residence of the Laos Royal Family

Considering its history as the last residence of the Royal Family, it’s no wonder this boutique hotel has such prime location. Elegantly it sits on the banks of the Mekong, surrounded by the gold spires of Buddhist temples, and in short walking distance to all of Luang Prabang’s central attractions and best restaurants. From the hotel, you’ll be able to gaze upon Wat Xiengthong, one of the most sacred temples in the entire country. And in the mornings, start off the day just right with the Victoria’s delicious and impressive breakfast buffet.

3 Nagas Hotel

Restored heritage buildings in Luang Prabang’s Old Quarter

At the 3 Nagas Hotel, you’ll get the distinct feeling you’ve stepped into another era. Situated in the beautiful Old Quarter of town, you’ll see a marriage of French architecture and traditional Lao design at this heritage hotel. The name takes its name from the three restored UNESCO heritage buildings on the hotel grounds, one of which served as the home to the royal ice cream maker for the former monarchy. Past guests praise its fabulous restaurant, unique decor, and perfect location. If you’re interested in witnessing an Almgsgiving ceremony, note that the monks pass by this hotel on their daily procession.

Luang Prabang View Hotel

A hilltop hideaway with stellar views of Luang Prabang

As its name suggests, the Luang Prabang View Hotel easily has some of the best views in the area. Located on the outskirts of town, this hilltop hotel is blessed with panoramic views. From this vantage point, visitors can take in the entire countryside valley and the surrounding green hills. Although the hotel is further outside the town center, a shuttle service is available on the hour to take guests to and from the center of town, a journey that takes less than 10-minutes. Much is praised about the View Hotel, including its fantastic breakfast and brunch, so if you don’t stay the night, at least come by for the morning or afternoon.

The Grand Luang Prabang Hotel

The former royal palace of a Lao Prince turned Prime Minister

If you’ve ever wanted to stay in a palace, here’s your chance. After the communist revolution, the Xieng Keo Palace was converted into the Grand Luang Prabang Hotel you see today. It was once the residence of Phetsarath, a Prince turned Prime Minister, who many Lao believed possessed magical powers. This sprawling hotel sits alongside the Mekong river and many guests report of seeing water buffaloes in the distance. The Grand is further out of town than most accommodation but the hotel’s free shuttle service easily tends to all transportation needs.

Ock Pop Tok Mekong Villa

A home-away-from-home at the Living Arts Centre by the Mekong River

The Mekong Villa at Ock Pop Tok is by far the smallest hotel on this list, but for return visitors to Luang Prabang, it’s a top favorite. The hotel is situated on the banks of the Mekong River, surrounded by a tropical garden, and from most rooms, guests can enjoy sweeping views across the rushing water. The well-known Silk Road Cafe is just downstairs and those who have tried it, rave about their breakfasts. Ock Pop Tok also encompasses the Living Arts Centre, so any guests who are interested are welcome to take a silk-weaving, silk dyeing, batik, and bamboo weaving class.
