Cycle the city instead of taking a motorbike
While getting a motorbike or moped and zipping around the city may sound tempting, renting a bicycle is a great way to both see Chiang Mai all the while working out. Kill two birds with one stone and pedal your way through the northern capital. Not only is it arguably safer than renting a motorbike, renting a bicycle is cheaper, as well. It is only about ฿50 (about $1.60) to rent one for 24 hours, while a motorbike could cost upwards of $15 for the same amount of time. You can probably spot a few cheap mopeds for rent, but know that they are probably not the best quality bikes and have little horsepower, making it difficult ride outside of the city anyway.

Visit an outdoor gym
Outdoor, makeshift gyms are all the rage. Why spend any baht to squat in a gym or class when you can do the exact same thing for free at one of the many outdoor gyms? You are like to find that these colorful machines focusing on different strengthening and toning different body parts are found at the many major parks in the area.
You may feel a bit ridiculous working out next to a swing set or slide, but the epic workout you find yourself getting on these seemingly ridiculous machines are surely worth their obscure locations. You will normally find a cluster of these in a park or green space with a small sign giving instructions as to how to use each piece of equipment. Before you train here (or pretty much anywhere we’re discussing in this list), remember to take your pre-workout supplements to get the most out of your time when you workout.
Run at the Muang Chiang Mai Stadium
Found just north of the old city is the Muang Chiang Mai Stadium. It is equipped with a running track that runs the entire perimeter of the stadium, making it a great spot to get in a good run. There is also a soccer field found at its core as well as inclined seating encompassing the stadium, should any traveler have the desire to run stairs. It is also surrounded by lush greenery, making for a scenic workout.
Run or cycle at a park
One cheap (and free) way to get your sweat on is to cycle or run at one of the green spaces found in the northern city. Here are a few of our favorites!
Rama IX Lanna Park
Rama IX Lanna Park is found but a few minute’s walk from CrossFit Chiang Mai. When we visited, the park was nearly empty. It is certainly one green space that remains off tourists’ itineraries, which is perfect for those of you who want to go for a run without anyone looking on. A few statues, bridges, and lakes are sprinkled throughout the green space. The wide path meandering its way through Rama IX Lanna Park is generally shaded, which is great considering how hot Thailand can get, especially when trying to get in a good outdoor workout.
Buak Hard Public Park
Found within the city’s gates is Buak Hard Public Park. Nestled in the southwest corner of the city, visitors will surely pass this park a handful of times before realizing it is even there. It is so quaint, in fact, that the outer edge of the park is under 500 meters in length. This is perfect for those athletes who want to get in a short, walk off a hangover from Zoe in Yellow from the night before, or simply enjoy all of the shrubbery found throughout the green space. You will often see people here gathering to do yoga with one another as well as locals congregating for picnics, hangouts, and more. You will find a pond and small coffee shop here, as well.
