Carrot on the Moon
Carrot on the Moon is a hostel and cafe duo that is serving up your coffee basics. The cafe itself is found inside of a glass house, though fret not, it is air-conditioned! There are also a handful of outdoor seats available if you would rather enjoy Pai’s weather. Carrot on the Moon has milk alternatives for vegan visitors and a great overall vibe, and it is found within walking distance of the city center, making it a great place to start the day with a cup of Joe.

Witching Well
Witching Well is one of the most interesting restaurants and cafes on our list. The clean and charming space is decked out with witch paraphernalia, making one feel as though they have left the city Pai altogether, even if only long enough to enjoy a coffee. For vegan travelers, there is coconut milk as an option for making that perfect latte. Witching Well is one of the earliest cafes to open (8 a.m.), making it the ideal place to kick-start a day of exploring Pai with a coffee in tow.

Fat Cat
In addition to serving up some of the healthiest dishes in town, Fat Cat, a vegan and vegetarian restaurant found right outside of the city center, is also serving up some of the best coffee in Pai. Their coffee can be served with cow milk, soy milk, or coconut milk, depending on your preference. You have coffee cinnamon, cacao coffee, ginger coffee, and fresh coffee to choose from. Hot coffee is ฿45, iced is ฿55, and shakes are ฿60. They also have many teas to choose from as well as kombucha, fruit shakes, and herbal teas, starting at ฿40. Each of the teas even explains the health benefits next to it, so you know what it is you are consuming and how it will benefit you!

Khao Tha Cafe
Khao Tha Cafe is a literal hole in the wall cafe serving up java in addition to a few baked goods. If you are heading to Charn Chai Muay Thai Gym and need some energy for the ring, this is the perfect cafe in which to stop off in and grab an espresso to get those limbs ready to spar. In addition to cheap, caffeinated beverages, this cafe also has some of the coolest decor items out of all the cafes on our list.

Lemon Thyme
Avocado-lovers will be in heaven at Lemon Thyme cafe! Their menu is full of dishes overflowing with bacon, avocado, and fresh greens. With plenty of healthy and hearty breakfast options, both herbivores and carnivores will find something to their liking. Get eggs any way you want them, pasta if you’re in the mood for something heavier, or just an Italian soda to enjoy while kicking back and relaxing.

A Taste of Joy
This trendy spot is tucked away on a quiet road a bit south of the town center. Brick walls, hanging plants, and local art pieces surround you while you nurse your morning pick-me-up. The open-air concept of A Taste of Joy allows a generous amount of both sunshine and breeze, sure to make you want to hang around all day!

Espresso Bar by Prathom 1
This quaint little cafe is located right in the middle of the Pai walking street. Grab a seat outside for a prime people-watching view, or get cozy upstairs on one of their floor cushions. The loft area is full of old-school games and collectibles, including E.T. and Chuckie paraphernalia. Indulge in their famous and satisfying espressos or cool off with a refreshing Thai iced tea. For something sweet, try their brownie, cheesecake or lemon curd.

Sawasdee Pai Yoga
Grab a cup of coffee and partake in one too many downward dogs at Sawasdee Pai Yoga. Not only is this one of our favorite yoga studios in town, but it also doubles as a coffee shop. The cafe is adorned with old soda paraphernalia and plenty of cozy seating perfect for curling up, enjoying the views of the Pai River, and drinking a cup of coffee while doing so.

Art in Chai
Slip your shoes off and enjoy the laid-back vibe of Art in Chai, arguably Pai’s most memorable of cafes. The restaurant is known for their famous Indian chai tea, with prices starting at only ฿60 for a tantalizing cup. There is soy milk as a substitute for those vegan travelers as well as chai tea with vanilla, caramel, and hazelnut for those of you with a sweet tooth. Kick-start a night out in Pai with chai with Baileys or iced rum. In addition to their famous Indian chai tea, Art in Chai is also serving up coffee. The most unique brew on the menu is certainly the Lao coffee: a unique yet powerful blend of coffee from Laos with a subtle taste of chocolate. There are also Thai teas, cocoa drinks, herbal teas, iced tea, lemonade, and even wine on the menu. In addition to a plethora of drinks, this restaurant is also serving up tasty and vegan desserts as well as a handful of vegetarian food items.

Bom Bowls
Another yoga studio and coffee house duo on our list is Bom Bowls. Found on the way to Pai Circus, this delightful shop is open-air and as welcoming as it is delicious. Coffee is served with metal straws to make it even more eco-friendly, and all of the coffees are made vegan-friendly. This spot has slowly become a watering hole for locals, expats, traveling yoga-lovers, and vegan backpackers, making it a great place to come and make some friends, as well. This is one of our favorite yoga studios and cafes in Pai, so be sure to check it out!

Joy Cafe
If you consider yourself an art expert and a coffee-lover, then Joy Cafe is the coffee shop to hit on your cafe itinerary. Local artists’ work covers this venue from floor to ceiling, and there are plenty of unique seating arrangements in which to lounge in all the while taking in the spectacle. The cafe is just a short walk from Pai Walking Street and is worth a visit for those travelers in Pai, whether you need a cup of Joe or merely wanting to get your creative fix. Hot starts at ฿40, and there is also Thai tea, green tea, kombucha, and many more beverages available on the menu in addition to Western and Thai food.

Big’s Little Cafe
Big’s Little Cafe is found on Pai Walking Street and is an exceptional spot to mingle with your fellow diners. The cafe looks more like an open-air bar than a restaurant, with stools wrapping around its u-shaped exterior. There is only one cup of Java on the menu to choose from … black coffee. It is only ฿30, however, and goes great with one of Big’s Little Cafe’s delicious breakfasts.

Boomelicious Cafe
Quaint and welcoming is the cafe of Booomelicious. There are only a total of six seating arrangements in the cafe, so be sure to get here early to pull up a chair and enjoy one of the delicious items found on their extensive menu. The drink menu is just as big as their food one, with juices, blends, smoothies, shakes coffee, and tea to choose from. Their delicious juices (made without sugar) are an interesting array of fresh fruit combinations, like the vegan moo juice: beets, carrots, apples, oranges, and mint (฿65). The coffee menu has everything one needs to take on a day of exploration in Pai, including long blacks, espresso, and lattes, starting at only ฿40 and an extra ฿10 if you want a double shot! Pair one of these drinks with their all-day breakfast or big hangover brekkie if you had one too many drinks the night before.

Cafe de Pai
Having been open since 1999, Cafe De Pai certainly has authority in being one of the best and most well-known cafes in Pai. There’s no Wi-Fi, but this cafe certainly makes up for it with its cool vibe and friendly staff. Stop in for a coffee in the morning. The cafe is equipped with coffee connoisseurs usual favorites, including espressos, mochas, lattes, cappuccinos, and more, starting at only ฿40. Cafe de Pai also has a wide assortment of tea available, with one too many flavors to choose from. Enjoy the foliage growing off to one side, sit in the outdoor seating area and people watch or head inside to check out the cool decor.

Earth Tone
Are you looking for some of the widest arrays of coffee in town? Then look no further than Earth Tone. This vegan and vegetarian restaurant is just as much for the meat-free diners as it is for the coffee connoisseurs. In addition to having arguably the best meat-free menu items in Pai, this restaurant is also serving up a variety of coffee. Visitors can substitute cow milk with rice milk and soy milk, as well. The coffee is made using organic beans and starts at only ฿45. Get something a bit more unique like their Vietnamese egg coffee (฿50), a traditional Hanoi coffee that brings a kind of tiramisu taste and texture to its tasteful brew. They are also serving up Vietnamese refit yogurt coffee (฿65) and reggae spice coffee (฿50 hot; ฿60 iced). The sheer number of other drinks here is simply intimidating, so be sure to frequent this cafe if you are needing any type of refreshment in Pai.

Coffee in Love
This spot might have the best view of all the cafes in Pai. Perched above the hills overlooking rice paddies and the distant mountains, Coffee in Love is a popular spot to get some fresh air while drinking a coffee. There are plenty of photo opportunities, from the flower-filled garden to the charming yellow cottage, Coffee in Love is straight out of a fairytale. Expect some crowds, this cafe is neither hidden nor unknown, and tourists tend to flock here.

The Container@Pai
Get the ultimate Pai experience at The Container. This amazing spot is what cafe-dreams are made of. Order your smoothie or coffee beverage and then choose where you want to sit. This two-story cafe has adorable hanging chairs on both levels, but the top floor boasts a better view. Nestle up in your little pod and swing away while enjoying views overlooking Pai. This open-air cafe lets the breeze in while keeping you shaded, creating the perfect atmosphere for you to relax in.

Red Bike Kitchen & Espresso Bar
Also located right on the walking street, this wood-paneled cafe makes for an easy stop while roaming around town. Red Bike specializes in homemade bagels and you can choose from a variety of cream cheese spreads, including wasabi, jalepeño, garlic herb, and cinnamon-walnut and raisin. If you need a bit more sustenance, grab a bagel sandwich with smoked salmon, avocado, pesto, bacon, eggs and more. Enjoy your meal inside or find a cozy spot outside on their terrace.

Chang Puak Coffee House
Enjoy a fresh cup of java surrounded by Thailand’s northern mountains at Chang Puak Coffee House. This cafe cannot be reached on foot, so grab the nearest motorbike and zip up to this awesome coffee house. Coffee starts at ฿50 for a shot of espresso, and the views from this cafe certainly make the coffee priceless. You can also order Thai tea, specialty drinks (like Vietnamese coffee), and drip coffee, starting at only ฿75.

Om Garden Cafe
Om Garden is a crowd favorite in Pai — and for good reason. Not only do they serve some of the best food in town, but they have a diverse menu and a spacious seating area enveloped in gorgeous foliage. You’ll probably fall in love with the first meal you try and you might end up frequenting this place every day of your trip. With plenty of healthy dishes on their menu, you won’t feel guilty stuffing your face at Om Garden. Make sure to save room for dessert, as so much love and fresh ingredients go into the sweets along with every other dish here!
