Nalu Bowls Dojo Bali: Best Smoothie Bowl in Canggu
This quaint little spot is attached to Dojo Bali Coworking space. As the name suggests, they specialize in smoothie bowls and they certainly hit the mark. Offering a handful of different bowls, all named after epic waves around the world, their simple concept is efficient and executed perfectly. Served in coconut bowls, don’t let the small-looking size deceive you. These smoothie bowls are the perfect size to kick-start your day. Prices start at Rp 60,000 (about $4) and extra toppings start at Rp 3,000. While a bit more pricey, I’d recommend their best seller, Mavericks: Nalu’s secret açaí blend topped with granola, bananas, strawberries, coconut flesh, and honey. Seating is limited, but if you’re lucky, you can cozy up on their cushioned bench and indulge in what will surely be one of the best smoothie bowls you’ll ever have.

Betelnut Cafe: Best Breakfast Sets in Canggu
Another great cafe option in Canggu is the popular Betelnut Cafe. Though there might be a wait when you arrive, it won’t take long to get a table. If you’re seated upstairs, you can enjoy the open air setup that welcomes in a cool breeze. If it’s especially hot out, the downstairs area has air conditioning. Perfect to break your fast, Belenut has a variety of breakfast bowls, smoothies, wraps, and other “breaky plates” to get your fix of eggs any way you want them. Try one of their sets to get the full experience, like a breaky wrap plus a smoothie for Rp 75,000 (about $5.25), or a Naga Bomb (breakfast bowl with blended dragon fruit, banana and coconut, topped with granola, shredded coconut, strawberries, bee pollen, goji berries, and chia seeds), a health shot, and a shot of jamu (a traditional Indonesian herbal beverage). As a bonus, Betelnut Cafe eliminates their usage of single-use plastic and only uses plastic-free straws and biodegradable takeaway containers!

Crate Cafe: Best Value
At first glance, you might think Crate is just another over-priced hipster spot in Canggu, with its industrial design and rustic wood decor. Fortunately, this spot has one unique aspect that keeps everybody coming back for more: it’s cheap aF (for trendy, healthy food, anyway). Choose between a savory dish (try The Barber: French toast with scrambled eggs, bacon, fried banana and maple syrup), a Super Bowl (veggies galore), or another healthy option (smoothie bowls and the like). The open-air concept of Crate keeps this spacious cafe breezy and provides plenty of natural light (perfect to document your stylish dining experience on the Gram). This place also doubles as an art gallery. You can find art pieces hanging on the concrete walls at the back of the cafe, along with tons of Polaroids of smiling guests with their meals. Crate is a little oasis in Canggu, surrounded by rice paddies and lush green foliage. It usually gets fairly packed here, but we promise it’s worth the wait!

The terrace has plenty of comfy seating, decorated with macrame throw pillows, colorfully-painted walls, hanging plants, and a bamboo roof. If you get here early enough, you can indulge in the special breakfast deal set from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.: one of their breakfast dishes (the Country Breakfast is top-notch: eggs, baby potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, and various vegetables baked in a skillet topped with feta cheese with a side of sourdough toast and a small rucola salad) with a fresh juice and coffee for just Rp 70,000 (about $4.50). Open later than most of the cafes on this list, you can also grab lunch or dinner at Cinta Cafe. They’ve got sandwiches, burgers, salads and other western dishes to choose from. The Loft: Most Instagrammable Cafe in Canggu
If there weren’t already enough “go-tos” on this cafe list, we’ve got another for you to bookmark. The Loft is another superb option in Canggu where you can dine in style without breaking the bank. At an average of Rp 70,000 (about $4.50) per dish, the prices are slightly higher than other cafes in the area, but well worth it. The barn-style restaurant has the perfect beachy atmosphere and has plenty of fans to keep the space airy and cool. Their extensive menu has everything from all-day breakfast items and smoothie bowls (the latter which are all vegan and made with house-made granola), to burgers and pastas. They specialize in poke bowls; choose between salmon, tuna or jackfruit, and then choose a base (quinoa, rice or mixed greens). All poke bowls come with mixed veggies, edamame, furikake (a dry Japanese seasoning), pickled ginger, seaweed, their special ponzu sauce, and oversized green tortilla chips on the side. These fresh plates of deliciousness are light, yet filling, have generous portions of fish, and are as tasty as they look.

Satu-Satu: Friendliest Staff
Another popular, yet affordable cafe in Canggu, Satu-Satu has everything you want in the morning. Start your day here with one of their locally-sourced coffees. You can even try the famous luwak coffee here, but don’t worry, it’s only wild luwak beans here (the famous luwak coffee comes from beans that have “passed through” palm civets, an animal native to the jungles of Southeast Asia. All beans are properly cleaned and sanitized and after going through the digestion tract of a palm civet, coffee beans end up tasting amazing for some reason. Many places inhumanely cage these adorable little creatures, but luckily, more and more places in Bali are choosing to only gather wild luwak poop as an ethical alternative). Their menu has heaps of breakfast and brunch options, from eggs Benedict with ham and avocado, to “vitality bowls” to start your day off on the right foot. This industrial-style cafe has a spacious and shaded terrace area out front where you can work on your laptop or just enjoy Bali’s sublime weather. As a bonus, the servers here are especially friendly and attentive.

district canggu: Best Cafe With a View in Canggu
With views overlooking a rice paddy and a constant breeze flowing in, District offers a tranquil setting to enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. Their extensive menu uses only quality ingredients that “promote healthy living and sustainable energy”. Their all-day brunch items are the star of the show, all of them costing only Rp 60,000 ($4), with plenty of dairy free, vegetarian, and vegan options. The Spaintastic was superb with its perfectly-cooked potatoes, crispy chorizo, eggs and side of grilled tomatoes and bread. Their complimentary fruit-infused water was an added bonus. There’s also a coworking space upstairs with an even better view of the rice paddies. Internet speeds unfortunately aren’t ideal at around 5mbps both up and down. Guests eating at the restaurant can utilize the internet while dining, which is good enough to do basic tasks, but if you need a quicker connection, go elsewhere.

Ruko Cafe: Best Brunch in Canggu
This busy little cafe is another favorite amongst expats. Serving breakfast all day long, Ruko is what brunch dreams are made of. Do yourself a favor and order the slow-cooked pulled pork Benedict (possibly the best Benedict I’ve ever had) or try a sandwich, salad, or smoothie bowl. Ruko also has numerous smoothie and juice options — the jamu slurpee was surprisingly delicious and refreshing. With seating both inside and outside, you can enjoy the aircon and colorful mural or hang out with the pups outside. Make sure to get a coffee, 5% of all coffee sales go towards helping fund children’s education in Bali. Ruko Cafe is also sustainable, refusing single-use plastics, using only recycled and recyclable paper products, and supporting local growers and community artisans.
