By booking through the Network, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

1. The Offer

2. Availability & Booking

All discounts are subject to availability at the time of booking. Blackout dates (e.g., peak holidays, full moon parties) may apply at individual hostels.

Discounts must be applied at the time of booking and cannot be applied retroactively to existing reservations.

3. General Restrictions

• Subject to Change: All codes, discounts, and offers are subject to change or withdrawal without notice.
• No Cash Value: Discounts cannot be exchanged for cash, credit, or transferred to other guests.
• Non-Combinable: This offer cannot be combined with any other promotions, vouchers, or agent bookings.
• Right to Modify: The Network and its participating hostels reserve the right to amend, suspend, or revoke these discounts at any time without prior notice.

4. Cancellations & House Rules

Standard cancellation policies and house rules of the specific hostel you are booking into will apply.

Local Waiver Riders

These Local Waiver Riders supplement the Global Check-In & Guest Liability Waiver & Release and address specific legal and cultural considerations for each country where Mad Monkey operates. By signing the Global Waiver, I also agree to the applicable Local Rider for my country of stay.

Philippines – Local Waiver Rider

• I acknowledge that under Philippine law, the use, possession, or distribution of any illegal drug is strictly prohibited and punishable under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165). Mad Monkey staff are authorized to report any suspected illegal activity to local authorities without prior notice.
• I agree to comply with all local health, safety, and government-enforced protocols.

Cambodia – Local Waiver Rider

• I acknowledge that drugs are illegal in Cambodia, and penalties are severe. Mad Monkey staff are authorized to report any suspected illegal activity to local authorities without prior notice.
• I understand that local law may impose fines or penalties for public disturbance or misconduct, and I agree to behave respectfully towards local customs and cultural sites.
• I accept that driving a motorbike in Cambodia without a valid license and insurance is illegal, and I am solely responsible for compliance.
• I agree to comply with all Cambodian public health measures during my stay.

Thailand – Local Waiver Rider

• I acknowledge that, except where specifically legalized, the use or possession of drugs in Thailand is illegal. Marijuana use is subject to strict local laws and regulations, and Mad Monkey prohibits its use on its premises. Guests engaging in illegal activities may be reported to local authorities immediately.
• I understand that disrespect towards Buddhist sites, symbols, or monks is a criminal offense in Thailand.
• I agree to comply with all public health directives and local curfews, if any.
• I acknowledge that all alcohol consumption must comply with Thailand’s legal drinking age and hours.

Australia – Local Waiver Rider

• I acknowledge that all state and federal laws regarding the use and possession of substances apply, including strict rules on controlled substances. I agree not to bring or consume any illegal drugs on Mad Monkey premises, and any violation may be reported to local authorities.
• I confirm that I am of legal age for alcohol consumption in Australia.
• I agree to follow all local health and safety laws and building regulations while on Mad Monkey property.

Laos – Local Waiver Rider

• I acknowledge that drug offenses in Laos carry severe penalties, including the death penalty. I understand that Mad Monkey staff are authorized to report any suspected illegal activity to local authorities without prior notice.
• I am aware of the risks associated with illicitly produced alcohol, including methanol poisoning, and I will exercise caution with all beverages.
• I agree to respect local customs and traditions, and be mindful of my conduct in public spaces.

Vietnam – Local Waiver Rider

• I acknowledge that Vietnam has extremely strict drug laws, with severe penalties including lengthy jail sentences and the death penalty for possession, use, production, or trafficking of illegal drugs, including cannabis. Mad Monkey prohibits the use of illegal substances on its premises and staff are authorized to report any suspected illegal activity to local authorities without prior notice.
• I agree to respect local customs and traditions, and be mindful of my conduct in public spaces.

Japan – Local Waiver Rider (Coming Soon!)

• I acknowledge that Japan has extremely strict drug laws, with severe penalties for possession, use, or trafficking of illegal drugs, including cannabis and certain prescription medications. I understand that Mad Monkey prohibits the use of illegal substances on its premises and staff are authorized to report any suspected illegal activity to local authorities without prior notice.
• I confirm that I am 20 years of age or older, which is the legal drinking age in Japan.
• I agree to respect local customs, laws, and public order, including rules regarding public conduct and noise.

Malaysia – Local Waiver Rider (Coming Soon!)

• I acknowledge that Malaysia has very strict drug laws, with severe penalties including the death penalty for drug trafficking. I understand that I may be subjected to drug screening upon entry or during my stay, and testing positive for drugs can lead to arrest and severe punishment. Mad Monkey prohibits the use of illegal substances on its premises and staff are authorized to report any suspected illegal activity to local authorities without prior notice.
• I agree to respect local customs, religious sensitivities, and laws regarding public conduct.

🚭 Smoking & Policy Violation Fines

Notes for Guests:

• These fines are standard across all Mad Monkey properties, with amounts shown in local currency.
• Fines cover cleaning fees and odor removal only. Additional repair costs or penalties may apply if there is property damage.

• incorrect details (such as name, id details, nationality, contact details, payment details, dates and times) submitted by you when making your booking. This includes, but is not limited to, loss or damage as a result of: (i) not being able to contact you with important information about your booking, where you have provided incorrect contact details; or (ii) you being unable to use a booking product (for e.g., check-in to a hotel, hire a car, use an airport transfer service or use an attraction ticket) due to the id details (including nationality) provided by you during your booking not matching those on your ID.
• your failure to obtain the correct documentation, such as a passport, visa or proof of vaccinations, required for your booking product.
• your failure to obtain appropriate insurance for your trip.
• you being unable to use a booking product (for e.g., check-in to a hotel, hire a car, use an airport transfer service or use an attraction ticket) due to: (i) your failure to comply with the relevant supplier’s terms and conditions; or (ii) your failure to arrive on time or allow sufficient time for check-in, boarding or (where relevant) passport control and security checks; or (iii) your behavior being deemed as unacceptable by the relevant supplier.

Breaches of these Terms & Conditions

Without prejudice to Mad Monkey Hostel’s other rights under these terms and conditions, if you breach these terms and conditions in any way or fail to comply with applicable laws or regulations, Mad Monkey Hostels, make take such actions as Mad Monkey Hostels deems proper to deal with the breach, including but not limited to:

• Suspending your access to the website;
• Prohibiting you from accessing the website;
• Blocking computers, using your IP address from accessing the website;
• Contacting your internet service provider to request that they block your access to the website; and/or
• Bringing court proceedings against you.

Mad Monkey also reserves the right to take all or any of the following actions anytime without prior notice:

• Reject or cancel any bookings associated with your name, email address or account;
• Cancel or revoke any coins, coupons, incentives, promotional rewards or other benefits that you may earn or have previously earned.
• Issue of a warning to you.
• Disclosure of such information to law enforcement authorities as we reasonably feel is necessary or as required by law.
• Any other measures as deemed appropriate by us at our sole discretion.

You agree that Mad Monkey will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with these terms. You are responsible for any losses suffered by us as a result of any use by you of our website and/or booking services which is not in accordance with these terms.

If we cancel your booking, we may not provide you with an explanation for the cancellation when disclosing the reason would, at our sole discretion, (a) violate applicable laws or (b) hinder the detection or prevention of fraud or other illegal activities.

Revision of the Terms and Conditions

Mad Monkey Hostels may revise these terms and conditions from time to time. Revised terms and conditions will apply to the use of this website from the date of publication of the revised terms and conditions on this website. Please check this page regularly to ensure you are familiar with the current version.

If you do not accept the changes, please do not use our website and/or our services. Otherwise, your continued use of our website and/or our services will constitute your acceptance of the revised terms and conditions.

Assignment

Mad Monkey Hostels may transfer, sub-contract, or otherwise deal with Mad Monkey’s right and/or obligations under these terms and conditions without notifying you or obtaining your consent. You may not transfer, sub-contract or otherwise deal with your rights and/or obligations under these terms and conditions.

Severability

If a provision of these terms and conditions is determined by any court or other competent authority to be unlawful and/or unenforceable, the other provisions will continue in effect. If any unlawful and/or unenforceable provision will be lawful or enforceable if part of it were deleted, that part will be deemed deleted, and the rest of the provision will continue in effect.

Entire Agreement

These terms and conditions constitute the entire agreement between you and Mad Monkey Hostels in relation to your use of this website and relevant booking services, and supersede all previous agreements in respect of your use of this website and relevant booking services.

Law and Jurisdiction

These terms and conditions will be governed by and construed in accordance with Singapore law and any disputes relating to these terms and conditions will be subject to the (non-) exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore, although this shall not deprive you of any mandatory consumer rights of the law of the country where you are checking in.

Privacy Statement: Photos, Images & Videos from Hostel

During the course of certain events at our hostel(s) and/or tour(s), we may capture your photos, images, or video for the purpose of promoting and marketing the hostel(s) and tour(s), and to provide information and updates to existing stakeholders, funders, and partners. This content may be used in our printed publications and digital channels, including our websites and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, etc.). We rely on our legitimate business interest to market and promote the hostels and tours as the legal basis for this processing.

All images and videos that we collect will be managed by our marketing team. We will record where they are used and may retain your image for up to ten (10) years.

Should you NOT wish to be photographed or recorded, or if you see your image in any photo or video that we publish, you must email us to opt-out of such material at [email protected]. Please provide sufficient details to enable us to identify and remove your image.

If you are aware of the presence of photographers and videographers and you do not wish to be included in any marketing material, you are responsible for removing yourself from areas where photography and/or recording is taking place, or for notifying the camera operator that you do not consent to your photo or video being taken. Your failure to do so may result in your inclusion in a photograph or recording and will be treated as consent for Mad Monkey Hostels to utilize that photograph or recording accordingly, at Mad Monkey Hostels’ sole discretion, until such consent is revoked under the Opt-Out clause above.

General Booking Terms and Cancellation Policy

These general Terms apply to all booking services facilitated through our Site. However, specific booking terms and conditions, including detailed cancellation policies, payment terms, and rules of stay, apply to each individual booking product (e.g., specific hostel, room type, or tour). These Terms may be translated into other languages for convenience. In the event of any discrepancy or conflict between the English version of these Terms and any translated version, the English version shall prevail.

Dispute Resolution

Should we be unable to resolve a dispute informally, you agree that any legal action or proceeding relating to your access to or use of the Site or these Terms shall be instituted in a court in Singapore, as stipulated in Section 18 (Law and Jurisdiction). We may also consider, at our discretion, alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation or arbitration for certain types of disputes.

Discount applies to dorm beds and private room bookings. Blackout dates apply and are subject to change without prior notice. The discount is subject to availability at the time of booking. A limited number of rooms may be allocated to this promotion. The discount is non-transferable and has no cash value. Mad Monkey Hostels reserves the right to amend, modify, or discontinue this offer at any time without prior notice. In the event of a dispute, the decision of Mad Monkey Hostels is final.

Mad Monkey Creator Trips - Terms & Conditions

Mad Monkey Creator Trips (“Trips”) are creator-hosted group trips run across Mad Monkey locations. By booking a Trip, you agree to the following Terms and Conditions.

Overview

A Trip is a fixed-date group departure hosted by an independent creator and operated by Mad Monkey.

Every Trip has:

• A published itinerary, start date and end date
• A maximum group size
• A minimum number of travellers required for the departure to run
• A per-person price based on shared dormitory accommodation

Itineraries are indicative, not guaranteed: “The itinerary published on a Trip page describes our intended plan. It is subject to change and availability and does not form part of the contract between you and us.”

Eligibility

• You must be 18 or over on the date the Trip starts. We may ask for photo ID and can refuse check-in to anyone who cannot show they meet the age requirement. No refund is due.
• Trips are physically active and involve travel by road, boat and ferry, and accommodation in shared dormitories.
• Tell us before booking if you have a medical condition, disability or reduced mobility that may affect your Trip.
• If you book for more than one traveller, you accept these terms on their behalf and are responsible for all payments on the booking.

How to Book

• Book through the Mad Monkey Creator Trips website.
• Your booking is made when you pay your deposit and receive a booking confirmation email.
• Check your confirmation and tell us within 48 hours if anything is wrong.
• Places are limited and allocated on a first-paid basis.
• Obvious errors in price or description do not bind us. You may accept the corrected price or cancel for a full refund.

Prices and Payment

Prices are shown per person in US Dollars (USD) and are based on shared dormitory accommodation unless stated otherwise.

You may be able to pay in your local currency at checkout. Currency conversion is handled by Stripe at their prevailing rate.

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your card details.

Two payment options are available:

Deposit and Instalments

• A deposit is taken at checkout to secure your place
• The balance is charged automatically to the same card in scheduled instalments
• Your dates and amounts are shown at checkout and in your confirmation email
• You authorise us to charge your card on those dates without contacting you again

Pay in Full

• Pay the whole Trip at checkout and receive [10]% off the Trip price
• Applies to the Trip price only, not to optional extras

Missed Payments: “If a scheduled payment fails we will email you and try again. If it is still outstanding [7] days after the due date, we may release your place and treat the booking as cancelled by you under Section 6. Payments already made are not refunded.”

Keep your card details current. An expired card is the most common reason a payment fails. Your balance must be settled in full before the Trip starts.

Minimum Numbers and Trip Confirmation

Definition of a “Confirmed Trip”: “A Trip becomes Confirmed when it reaches the minimum number of travellers shown on the Trip page. Until then the departure is provisional. Once Confirmed, you will receive a Trip Confirmed email and the cancellation terms in Section 6 apply.”

If the minimum is not met, we will cancel the departure and refund everything you have paid us, in full and automatically. We will tell you no later than [6 WEEKS] before the start date. We strongly recommend you do not book flights until you receive your Trip Confirmed email.

Cancellations and Changes

If You Cancel

Cancel in writing to [email protected]. Cancellation takes effect the day we receive it but can take a few days to process.

• Before the Trip is Confirmed: your deposit is refunded in full
• After the Trip is Confirmed: all payments made are non-refundable
• Remaining instalments stop immediately and no further payments are taken

We hold accommodation and activity bookings for you from the moment a Trip is Confirmed, which is why we cannot refund at that stage. This is what travel insurance is for.

Transferring Your Place

• You may transfer your place to someone else if they meet the eligibility requirements in Section 2 and we can transfer the underlying bookings
• No transfer fee applies
• Ask us as early as you can
• You and the person taking your place are jointly responsible for anything still owed

If We Change or Cancel

• Activities, accommodation and routing may be changed, substituted or cancelled due to weather, safety, local operating conditions, supplier availability or other circumstances outside our reasonable control
• We will make reasonable efforts to provide an alternative of a similar nature and value
• Minor changes (a swapped activity, a reordered day, a changed time) do not entitle you to a refund
• If we make a significant change, or cancel for a reason other than minimum numbers or an event under Section 12, you may accept the change, transfer to another departure where available, or cancel for a full refund

If you leave a Trip early, miss the start, or are removed under Section 10, no refund is due for the unused part.

What’s Included

Your Trip page lists what is included for that departure. As a general rule:

Included

• Accommodation at Mad Monkey locations, in mixed or female shared dormitories unless you have paid for an upgrade
• All internal group transport between locations, including ferries
• All tours and events listed in the itinerary
• Group coordination and bookings handled by our location teams

Not Included

• International flights
• Airport pick-up and drop-off, unless stated on the Trip page
• Visas and any associated fees
• Travel insurance
• Meals, drinks and anything not listed in the itinerary

Everything in the itinerary is included in the price. Nothing is charged as an extra on the ground, though you are free to sit an activity out. No refund or credit is given for an activity you choose not to join.

Accommodation, Upgrades and Extra Nights

The standard room type is a shared dormitory. Rooms are allocated by the location team on arrival. We cannot guarantee specific beds or that your group will be placed together, though we will always try.

Private room upgrades and extra nights, where offered, are booked and charged at checkout and are subject to availability. Extra nights before or after a Trip are a separate stay. They fall under the standard Mad Monkey hostel booking terms, not these Trip terms, and are not covered by Section 6.

Insurance, Passports and Health

Travel insurance is mandatory for every traveller on every Trip.

Your policy must cover medical treatment, repatriation, and the activities on your itinerary, including water-based activities, trekking and any adventure sports listed. We recommend a policy with Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) cover. Because payments are non-refundable once a Trip is Confirmed, CFAR is your main protection if you can no longer travel. We may ask for your insurer and policy number before the Trip starts, and can decline to let you join without valid cover. No refund is due. Any medical or repatriation costs you incur are yours to meet.

You are responsible for holding a valid passport, all required visas and entry permits, and for meeting any health or vaccination requirements. Requirements differ by nationality and change without notice. Check with the relevant embassy and your government’s travel advice before you travel. We are not liable if you are refused entry, denied boarding or removed because your documentation is not in order, and no refund is due.

Your Trip Host and Group Rules

Trips are hosted by an independent creator. Your contract is with Mad Monkey, not with the host. The host travels with the group and helps set the tone, but does not organise or operate the Trip and cannot make commitments on our behalf. If a host cannot travel we will tell you as soon as we know and will arrange a replacement or run the departure as planned. A change of host is not a significant change under Section 6.

Group Rules: “Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any Trip. Possessing or using drugs contravenes local law and puts the rest of the group at risk. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter, and our team has the right to remove any member of the group who breaks this.”

We may also remove you, or refuse to let you join, if your behaviour is likely to cause danger, distress, damage or serious disruption to others. If you are removed, our responsibility to you ends immediately. You cover your own onward arrangements, no refund is due, and we will not meet any expenses arising. You are responsible for any damage or loss you cause, and agree to meet those costs at the time. Local laws apply to you throughout. Please follow the reasonable instructions of our teams and local guides, particularly on safety.

Activities and Personal Risk

Trips include activities such as boat travel, snorkelling, surfing, trekking and quad biking, which carry inherent risk even when properly run. By booking, you accept those risks and confirm you are in good enough health to take part. Many activities are run by independent local suppliers under their own safety rules and conditions. Follow all safety briefings and instructions and use the equipment provided. Our teams and suppliers may stop you taking part where they reasonably believe it is unsafe, including because of weather, conditions, your health, or alcohol.

Events Outside Our Control

We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by events outside our reasonable control. These include war and civil unrest, terrorism, epidemic or pandemic, natural disaster, fire, adverse weather, port and airport closures, industrial action, government or border restrictions, and the acts of any authority. Where such an event affects your Trip we will tell you as soon as we can and set out your options.

Photography and Filming

Trips are filmed and photographed throughout. Your host, our team and other travellers will be capturing content, which is likely to be published on social media and used in Mad Monkey marketing. By booking, you agree that we and your host may take photographs and video that include you, and may use, publish and share that material for marketing purposes without payment, in any format and territory. If you would prefer not to appear, tell your host and the location team at the start and we will do our best to keep you out of published content. To request removal of something already published, email [email protected].

Complaints

If something goes wrong during your Trip, raise it straight away with your host or the location team. Most things can be put right on the spot. If it is not resolved, write to [email protected] within [28] days of the Trip ending, with your booking reference and full detail. We will respond within [28] days.

Privacy

Participation in a Trip is subject to Mad Monkey’s Privacy Policy. We collect the details you give us at booking, including names, contact details, emergency contacts, and any dietary, accessibility or medical information you share, in order to run your Trip. We share what is necessary with accommodation, transport and activity suppliers, and with your host where relevant. We do not sell your personal data. By booking, you consent to receive operational and Trip-related communications by email and SMS.

The Really, Really Boring (But Necessary) Legal Bit

This is the part our lawyers make us include. In short: your contract is with Mad Monkey and not with your host, our responsibility to you is limited to what you have paid us for the Trip, we can’t cover costs you book separately such as flights or visas, and these terms are governed by the laws of Singapore. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or affects your statutory rights as a consumer. Where an activity is run by an independent supplier, that supplier’s own terms apply to it.
